Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for improving data migration from a source data stripe to a destination stripe in a local drive migration (LDM) of a new magnetic disk control system (RAID).
SOLUTION: Procedures are disclosed to ensure a precise tracking of data location by checkpoint designation of data location in case a system break down during the LDM. Furthermore, the invention offers a facility for an appropriate checkpoint designation of data writing to a stripe according to whether a stripe unit has undergone a migration beforehand.
