Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To supply a milling cutter that has a plurality of inserts around its periphery for plunge machining, minimizes the power to apply, extends the insert tool lives, and improves chip removal.
SOLUTION: The milling cutter has a plurality of lay-down cutting inserts 16 mounted in a plurality of pockets 20 around a periphery wall 18 of the milling cutter body and includes angled pockets which not only permits a greater number of pockets to accept the inserts but also comparatively facilitate inserting or removing mounting screws 62 for securing each insert within a pocket.
