Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mode multiplex optical communication system capable of keeping propagation delay difference down at low cost.SOLUTION: A mode multiplex optical communication system comprises: a transmission device that performs mode multiplexing of optical signals in a plurality of propagation modes and transmits the resultant optical signal; a reception device; and an optical transmission path for connecting the transmission device and the reception device. The optical transmission path comprises conversion means that converts a propagation mode with the largest propagation delay in the plurality of propagation modes into a propagation mode with propagation delay smaller than the largest propagation delay, or converts a propagation mode with the smallest propagation delay in the plurality of propagation modes into a propagation mode with propagation delay larger than the smallest propagation delay.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
