PURPOSE: To obtain a rubber or plastic-coated roll whose surface is smooth, by introducing a deaerated liquid rubber plastic in a mold, inserting an core into the rubber plastic to allow the level of the rubber plastic to rise in the space between the mold and the core thereby the rubber plastic fills the space, setting the rubber plastic, and cooling the whole body to cryogenic temperatures.

CONSTITUTION: A deaerated cold-setting liquid silicone rubber 2 is introduced in a prescribed amount in the mold 1 having a cylindrical cavity whose top is open and bottom is closed with care being taken not to include air therein, and then the metal core 3 is inserted concentrically in the mold until its lower support end 4 reaches a blind hole 5 provided in the bottom of the mold 1. As the core 3 is inserted, the level of the liquid silicone rubber 2 rises in the space between the mold 1 and the core 3. After the inserting of the arbor is completed, and the space is filled with the silicone rubber 2, the silicone rubber 2 is allowed to set, and the whole body is put in a cryostat, where it is cooled to cryogenic temperature, and the roll is removed from the mold.
