To enable reducing the data quantity to be transmitted to a terminal and checking the situation inside a monitoring area at an arbitrary timing from a terminal side in a monitoring apparatus for remote monitoring.
When an output signal from a sensor unit 5 becomes on, a transmission data generator 3 generates only a first notification data while not generating transmission data based on a picked-up image. In this way, unwanted image data are not transmitted to the terminal, and the data quantity to be transmitted to the data can be reduced. Also, when receiving an image transmission instruction from a management terminal via a radio receiver 4, transmission data are generated on the basis of the data of a picked-up image, irrespective of whether or not an output signal from the sensor unit 5 is on, thereby enabling checking the situation inside the monitoring area at the arbitrary timing from the terminal side.
