PURPOSE: To improve convenience by selectively recording a moving picture and a still picture corresponding to the length of operating time in which a recording instruction is inputted.

CONSTITUTION: When a recording switch 1 is depressed, a timer is reset. At a controller 2, it is detected whether the prescribed time of T seconds lapses at the timer or not and when the T seconds do not lapse, the recording of a still picture recorder 4 is started/finished after it is confirmed that the switch 1 is not depressed. On the other hand, when the lapse of T seconds is detected, the recording of a moving picture recorder 3 is started and after it is confirmed that the switch 1 is not depressed, the recording of the moving picture is finished. Then, the moving picture is recorded in a magnetic tape 5, for example, and the still picture is recorded in a memory 6. Those pictures can be freely edited or synthesized by connecting this device with a computer 7.
