Abstract:

PURPOSE: To use an engine in a various operational condition with high output power and low fuel consumption, by constituting the engine such that cylinders are partially arranged to an idle state in a certain operational condition while used as a normally typed engine in a different operational condition further operated as a high powered engine in the other operational condition.

CONSTITUTION: A main intake valve 24, subintake valve 26 and exhaust valve 30 of each cylinder aWd are opened and closed by cam action of a rocker valve mechanism through rocker arms 48, 52, 56, and a valve action stopper mechanism is provided to each rocker arm and disengageably formed by oil hydraulic operation with selector valves 136, 137. While a computer C decides a range A, at low speed with a low load, range B, at low speed with a high load, and range C, at high speed, from engine speed, main throttle valve opening, cooling water temperature, lubricating oil temperature, etc., to turn on the valve 136, stop the main intake valve 24 and exhaust valve 30, turn off the valve 137 and operate the subintake valve 26 in the range A. The valve 136 is turned off also the valve 137 is turned off in the range B, and the valve 136 is turned off while the valve 137 is turned on in the range C.
