PURPOSE: To make multichannel equalizing characteristics at the time of repro ducing variable by additive information recorded at the time of variable pitchrecording.

CONSTITUTION: The multichannel digital magnetic recording and reproducing device is provided with a variable pitch setting part 4, a signal processing part 7 and an equalizer part 8. When a variable pitch made is set from a key input part 3 in order to accelerate or decelerate a magnetic tape 1, its pitch data is outputted to the signal processing part 7 and the equalizer part 8. At the time of recording a signal, the pitch data is added to a recording track by an additive information generating part 7a, and at the time of reproducing, the pitch data of each track is read out by an additive information decoding part 7b. These pitch data are inputted to the equalizer part 8, and a reproducing frequency characteristic of each track is corrected. Thus, multichannel reproduced signals having their equalized output voltages can be obtained.
