A joy stick input device fitted to a vehicle has a controllable operation guide set in the operation range of a stick, which can be operated only in a specified direction according to the state of a GUI. When it is decided that the stick is misoperated, information regarding the misoperation direction is stored and a history of misoperation is analyzed to decide trends of misoperation, thereby changing the shape of the operation guide to avoid misoperation. For example, misoperation to a direction (1) different from a coorrect direction (2) is more frequent than operation to the correct direction (2), the flank of the operation guide 111a on the side (2) is widened toward (1) as shown by (a). When misoperation to a direction (5) different from a correct direction (4) is more frequent than operation to the correct direction, both flanks of the operation guide 111b are widened as shown by (b).
