PURPOSE: To prevent marking miss by putting a mark on the first or last ceramic green sheet so that the marked surface appears on the upper or lower surface of a multilayer ceramic element and laminating second and subsequent unmarked ceramic green sheets thereby facilitating the alignment at the time of marking.

CONSTITUTION: A numeral of 1 is marked on a ceramic green sheet using a dielectric paste 2. Thus marked ceramic green sheet is laminated first so that the marked surface appears on the rear surface of a multilayer ceramic element. Predetermined number of ceramic green sheets having no inner electrode and ceramic green sheets printed with an inner electrode 4 pattern and a cutting line are then laminated thereon. The entirety is thermally pressed, subjected to degreasing and sintering, and applied with an outer electrode 5 to obtain a multilayer ceramic chip capacitor. This procedure eliminates the need of marking after sintering.
