PURPOSE: To prolong the life of bearings of crank shafts, etc., particularly in internal combustion engines by using multi-layer slide bearing materials comprising a back plate and a sliding layer made of a specified fluorine-contg. polymer matrix joined to the back plate.
CONSTITUTION: Multilayer slide bearing materials each comprising a back plate, made of one or more layers, and a fluorine-contg. polymer matrix having a thickness of 0.01 to 0.20 mm and joined to the back plate, wherein 5 to 50 wt.% metal powder having a high affinity for fluorine and a particle diameter of 40 μm or smaller is finely dispersed in the matrix. The fluorine-contg. polymer contains 0.5 to 5.0 wt.% metal fluoride, 0.5 to 5.0 wt.% metal oxyfluoride, and it comprises 2.5 wt.% to 25 wt.% monoclinic PVDF, 2.5 to 40 wt.% amorphous PVDF and 10 to 90 wt.% new polymer. The new polymer has a clear intensity peak at 2θ=18.07±0.03° in X-ray diffraction pattern with CuKα rays and a melting point in the range of 320 to 350°C. The fluorine-contg. polymer is free of the monoclinic PVDF.
