PURPOSE: To obtain pile cloth suitable for towel for wiping water, having improved drying properties of cotton, handle and hardening after washing, stability of shape and defects of occurrence of wrinkle with hydrophilic synthetic yarn without losing merits of cotton.

CONSTITUTION: Cotton fibers having ≥20mm fiber length and hydrophilic synthetic fibers (fiber length after wet heat treatment is set to be shorter than the fiber length of the cotton fibers) having <50mm fiber length and 20-50% latent shrinkage percentage in a ratio of the former and the latter of 50:50-80:20 are spun by conventional mixed spinning method. The spun yarn is used as pile yarn and unshrinkable yarn (e.g. spun yarn of 100% cotton or filament yarn of synthetic fiber) as ground yarn to weave or knit pile cloth, which is then heated and shrunk in a wet heat process, bleaching process or dyeing process and the pile yarn is made into a layer structure to give pile yarn comprising an outer layer made of cotton and an inner layer made of hydrophilic synthetic fiber, having a layer structure. The pile cloth has excellent characteristics as cotton products having refreshing feeling and wiping feeling in use by touch of skin friction.
