PURPOSE: To eliminate the need of interlocking a finder optical system with a photographing optical system by detecting the range of the visual field of the finder optical system and moving the photographing optical system to a focal distance corresponding to the range of the visual field.
CONSTITUTION: The present position of the finder optical system, that is, the focal distance of a finder is recognized based on an output signal from a finder zoom setting position detection circuit 52 and data based on the information of the output signal is stared. Next, a CPU 51 instructs a motor driving circuit 55 based on the data to drive a lens barrel zoom driving mechanism 56, so that the photographing optical system in the lens barrel of a photographing lens is moved to perform zooming, and the present position of the lens barrel of the photographing lens is detected based on an output signal from a zoom position detecting mechanism 60 which detects the position of a zoom encoder fixed in the lens barrel of the photographing lens. The mechanism 56 is driven until the position of the lens barrel of the photographing lens attains a position corresponding to the focal distance of the finder.
