PURPOSE: To obtain the subject copolymer, having rubbery properties and a low surface resistivity, excellent in antistatic properties and useful as a rubber material, etc., by carrying out the graft copolymerization of a vinyl carboxylate with an epichlorohydrin-based polymer and saponifying the resultant graft copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: This copolymer having a graft chain of vinyl alcohol unit is obtained by carrying out the graft copolymerization of a vinyl carboxylate such as vinyl acetate with an epichlorohydrin-based polymer such as homopolymer of epichlorohydrin and subjecting the resultant graft copolymer to the saponifying reaction. Furthermore, the amount of the vinyl carboxylate used is preferably within the range of 20-1000 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. epichlorohydrin-based polymer.
