Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a phenolic compound useful as a raw material for various polymers in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: An aryl hydroxide is produced by the vapor-phase hydrolysis of an aryl halide using a catalyst having the following characteristics. (1) The catalyst contains a metal of the group IB of the periodic table and (2) the catalyst is a crystalline aluminosilicate AZ-1.
