PURPOSE: To correspond to a difference of rotational directions of a pinion gear and further to improve a yield rate while reduction of a cost of parts can be obtained, in a one-way clutch for a starter.

CONSTITUTION: A clutch outer 17 of a one-way clutch 13, interposed between an input gear 12 gear-connected to a drive shaft 2a and a pinion gear supporting shaft 8 in a motor 2 of a starter 1, is serration-connected to the input gear 12. External shape of the clutch outer 17 containing a clutch cover 20 of the one-way clutch is symmetrically formed with respect to an axial line direction which is a building direction of the clutch outer. Thus by building the clutch outer front/rear reversed relating to the axial line direction, by only the one-way clutch of single kind, torque transmitting direction can correspond to both forward/reverse rotational directions, and a yield rate can be improved while reduction of a cost of parts of the starter can be obtained.
