PURPOSE: To remelt a boundary part for welding and to work it in a prescribed state then to form it into a roll in a cylindrical hollow shape by filling a groove part of a roll base material formed by draw bending a steel plate, etc., in the roll shape with a welding material obtained by melting material nearly equal to the base material as a welding material.
CONSTITUTION: First a steel material is draw bent and a roll bas material 1 having an I-shaped groove part 2 is formed at the bent start end and the bent terminal end. Then, this roll base material 1 is held at such a posture that the groove part 2 stands upright, this groove part 2 is filled with material equal in quality to the base material 1 in a melting state to weld the groove part 2. This welded boundary part is remelted by electron beam, laser beam, plasma, TIG arc, etc. Therefore, since the welded part is not contaminated by the atmosphere, very deep and small in distortion, etc., as good properties, the joining part of the draw-bending roll is finished in the homogeneous quality with the base material, the welded part is free from generation of pin holes and a very excellent goods can be obtained.
