Abstract:

PURPOSE: To synthesize a high-purity N-substituted maleimide without containing maleic anhydride according to a simple one-pot reaction in high yield while keeping the reactional system in a homogeneous phase.

CONSTITUTION: This method for producing an N-substituted maleimide is to use xylene as a solvent, satisfy the formula 0.8×SA+MAn≥A≥0.45×SA+MAn (A is the number of mol of methylamine; SA is the number of mol of aromatic sulfonic acid; MAn is the number of mol of maleic anhydride), distill off water produced during the reaction and carry out the reaction while keeping the reactional system in a homogeneous phase.
