Title:
ELECTROCHEMICAL ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3093612
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decompose nitrogen oxides with high efficiency at low temp. and low current density even in a high oxygen-concn. atmosphere such as 10% oxygen concn.
SOLUTION: This element consists of an oxygen ion conductor 4 and plus and minus electrodes 2, 3, and at least the minus electrode 2 of the two electrodes 2, 3 consists of laminated layers of alkaline earth oxides 1 or of a mixture of these. Nitrogen oxides are electrochemically decomposed by exposing at least the minus electrode 2 to a gas containing nitrogen oxides and oxygen at the operational temp. and giving electric potential to the minus electrode.
