Abstract:
PURPOSE: To carry out safely the treatment of a vasal-wall abnormality in the treatment of a local abnormal vasal wall such as a vasal boss in the vascu lar structure, by arranging a substance composed of hydrogel in the vascular structure, and swelling the substance to blockade and treat the localized vasal- wall abnormality. CONSTITUTION: In order to treat a localized abnormal vasal wall which constitutes a vasal boss 22 in a branch of the vascular structure 24, the hydrogel device 28 has the form of a circular stent 44. Said stent swells by absorbing the water from the blood in the vascular structure 24, and it is held in its position essentially and permanently by the tensile force between its outside surface 48 and the inside surface 36 of the vascular structure 24. Said stent 44 is inserted into the vascular structure 24 through the percutaneous puncture into a blood vessel for access including a femoral artery and vein by using a catheter guided fluoroscopically. Hydrogel is composed of polymers with a polimerization degree sufficient to construct a three-dimensional network structure of polymer crystallites which has spaces among polymer crystallites.
