PURPOSE: To prevent electrostatic charge with reverse polarity to primary electrostatic charge from occurring on an image carrier because of charging up a recording material carrying member such as a transfer sheet being a transfer device at the time of transfer charge and to obtain a uniform image without the unevenness of electrostatic charge at the time of multiple transferring.
CONSTITUTION: When a recording material is attracted and electrostatically charged on the transfer sheet 5f by an attractive electrostatic charging brush 5c, the back surface of the sheet 5f is electrostatically charged to be negative, which is the same polarity as the primary electrostatic charge(negative) of a photoreceptor drum 1. Since the back surface of the sheet 5f is electrostatically charged to be negative by attractive electrostatic charge before the transfer charge by a transfer charging brush 5b, the sheet 5f is prevented from being charged up to be positive by the transfer charge, and the effect of charging up is not left as the positive electrostatic charging memory on the drum 1. Therefore, the uniform image without the unevnness of electrostatic charge is obtained at the time of multiple transferring.
