PURPOSE: To obtain a new cellulose cuprammonium solution having low content of copper and ammonia by preparing cellulose having adsorbed copper and then dissolving the cellulose in an aqueous solution containing ammonia.

CONSTITUTION: For example, cellulose is immersed in a cuprammonium solution containing an alkali metal hydroxide to prepare cellulose having adsorbed copper in an amount of 0.3-0.7 molar ratio to pyranose ring of cellulose. Then the cellulose is dissolved in an aqueous solution containing ammonia to give the objective cuprammonium solution containing ≥3% cellulose, 0.5-5% ammonia and 0.25-1% alkali metal hydroxide.
