PURPOSE: To provide a conjugate elastic yarn giving a cloth by a process similar to the weaving process for general synthetic fibers (e.g. nylon) and capable of recovering the properties of elastic yarn by heat-treatment processes such as scouring and dyeing and to provide a process for producing the yarn.
CONSTITUTION: The latent elastic yarn is composed of conjugate elastic filaments containing a polyurethane as a core component and a fiber-forming thermoplastic polymer as a sheath component. The filament has a core/sheath ratio (cross-sectional ratio) of (1-50)/1 and an elongation of ≤350% and a number of ridges are developed in fiber direction first by heat-treatment. The latent elastic yarn can be produced by producing a latent elastic yarn containing a polyurethane as a core component and a fiber-forming thermoplastic polymer as a sheath component and capable of developing a number of ridges in fiber direction by heat-treatment. The core and the sheath components are arranged in such a manner as to attain a conjugation ratio (cross-sectional ratio of core/ sheath: X) of (1-50)/1, subjected to conjugate spinning and directly wound under drawing at a final winding speed of 500-3,500m/min and a draw ratio (Y) of 1.1-6.0 under heating or without heating.
