PURPOSE: To provide a cermet for a cutting tool having excellent wear resistance and chipping resistance, particularly having excellent chipping resistance at the time of wet cutting.
CONSTITUTION: In a cermet for a cutting tool constituted of a hard phase essentially consisting of at least one kind among the carbides, nitrides, carbonitrides and composite compounds thereamong and a bonding phase consisting of at least one kind among iron group metals, the hard phase is constituted of two B1 type crystals in which the peak position on the (113) plane in X-ray diffraction using the K(α1 line of Cu is distant by 0.2 to 1.0 degrees, and the peak intensity ratio on the low angle side of the two B1 type crystals to the peak intensity on the high angle side is preferably regulated to ≥1.
