PURPOSE: To obtain a nonwoven fabric having excellent dimensional stability and disappearing by decomposing in natural environment when discarded after the use over a prescribed period and to provide a process for the production of the nonwoven fabric.
CONSTITUTION: This decomposable nonwoven fabric is produced from a web formed out of a fiber of at least one kind of lactic acid-type polymer selected from among a poly(DL-lactic acid) containing >80mol% of L-lactic acid unit, a poly(DL-lactic acid) containing >80mol% of D-lactic acid unit, an (L-lactic acid)-hydroxycarboxylic acid copolymer containing ≥70mol% of L-lactic acid unit and (D-lactic acid)-hydroxycarboxylic acid copolymer containing ≥70mol% of D-lactic acid unit. The present invention also relates to a process for production of the nonwoven fabric.
