Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a liq. crystal orienting agent ensuring a certain pretilt angle independently of rubbing conditions by incorporating a specified compd. into a polymer obtd. by allowing tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride to react with a diamine compd. and/or a polymer obtd. by imidating the polymer.
CONSTITUTION: A compd. (compd. III) having two or more epoxy groups in one molecule, e.g. bisphenol A type epoxy resin, phenol novolak type epoxy resin, cresol novolak type epoxy resin, alicyclic epoxy resin or glycidyl ester type epoxy resin, etc., is incorporated into a polymer (the specific polymer I) obtd. by allowing tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride (compd. I) to react with a diamine compd. (compd. II) and/or a polymer (the specific polymer II) obtd. by imidating the polymer. The amt. of the compd. III having epoxy groups is regulated to 0.01-20 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt., in total, of the polymers I and II.
