To provide a network acquisition method for a cellular system radio communication apparatus 100 which is operated by a plurality of radio access technologies and of which the network search operation is enhanced.
In the network acquisition method which determines (16) the most appropriate cell on the basis of characteristics of signals received from a plurality of cells, the signals from the respective cells are provided in one frequency band, and set so as to perform a series of measurement of the characteristics by every frequency by one radio access technology (14). The characteristics of at least one measured signal by every frequency are compared with a prescribed value before the final measurement of the series of measurement. When one radio access technology does not form an appropriate cell as a result, the radio access technology is switched to alternate radio access technology before the final measurement of the series of measurement is performed, and a signal in accordance with the alternate radio access technology is searched (18 and 20) for searching the appropriate cell.
