Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound having excellent interfacial activity and improved water resistance.
CONSTITUTION: A carboxylic acid of formula I (R1 is 1-21C alkyl or alkenyl; R2 and R3 are H or 1-2C alkyl; M is H, alkali metal ion, ammonium ion, etc.) or its salt such as disodium desiloxy-(2-hydroxyethyl)-malonate. The compound of formula I, for example, is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II with an alkali metal hydride (e.g. HNa) to form an alcoholate, reacting the alcoholate with a compound of the formula R'-X (X is halogen) in a solvent such as hexane at -50 to 120°C to give a compound of formula III (E is 1-5C alkyl), hydrolyzing this compound and optionally exchanging a salt.
