PURPOSE: To provide a new intermediate product for inexpensive production of vitamins A and E and carotenoids.
CONSTITUTION: The intermediate product of the vitamin A is a product of formula I (R1' to R4' are each H, an alkyl; A is Cl, Br, arylthio, arylseleno; R' is H, an alkyl, alkylcarbonyl or OR' is oxo; (n), (m) are 0 to 3; provided that when (m) is 2 and (n) is 1, A is not Cl or Br), and the intermediate product compd. for the vitamins A and E of formula II (R1 to R7 are each H, an alkyl, optionally cyclic alkenyl or two pieces of substituents form unsatd. or satd. rings as bond each other and successively bond each other; A is Cl, Br, arylthio, arylselenon; n' is 0 to 10) and the carotenoids, is obtd. by reaction of a compd. of formula III (R is an alkyl, silyl having 1-4 carbon substituents, alkoxycarbonyl, tosyl) and a compd. of formula IV (B is OH, a 1-6C alkoxy, alkyl, etc.).
