Abstract:

To prepare an industrially useful asymmetric reduction catalyst solution and to provide a method for producing an optically active alcohol by using the same.

The method for producing the optically active alcohol comprises preparing the asymmetric reduction catalyst solution by performing the reaction of an optically active lactam derivative expressed by formula (3) or formula (4) with a borane and performing an asymmetric reduction of an asymmetric ketone to obtain the optically active alcohol. In formulae (3), (4), R1, R2 are each independently H, methyl, ethyl, a 3-10C straight chain, branched or cyclic alkyl, methoxy, ethoxy, a 3-10C straight chain, branched or cyclic alkoxy or a halogen atom; and (m), (n) are each independently 0-5 integer.
