To analyze base sequences of cDNA included in a full-length cDNA library and specifying the bioactivities of a protein encoded by the cDNA having a new sequence in them and to provide a method for using a protein based on the bioactivity and DNA encoding the same.

The protein is either one of the following (a)-(c). (a) a protein comprising a specific amino acid sequence derived from human and having EGF (epidermal growth factor) activity. (b) a protein comprising amino acid sequence having one or more amino acids deleted, substituted and/or added from/for/to the above amino acid sequence and having increased expression in cancer cells or cancer tissues. (c) a protein comprising a partial amino acid sequence of the amino acid sequence of the above protein and having increased expression in cancer cells or cancer tissues.
