Abstract:
PURPOSE: To decide a shape of a master flexibly and adaptively by binarizing image data placed in 2-dimension through the use of a prescribed threshold level and selecting a noise elimination filter depending on the binary data. CONSTITUTION: A binary index section 5 compares a threshold level obtained for each block with each pixel value in a corresponding block to generate binary data denoting a binary index corresponding to each pixel. Then a filter selection section 6 of a selective local smoothing section 3 references a binary index to select an optimum filter to eliminate noise. In this case, the selection of the filter is executed for each window and the filter is classified into three types as homogeneous, heterogeneous and impulse noise depending on the binary index in existence in the window. Then the homogeneous area consisting of the same index is filtered by a comparatively strong smoothing filter and noise is suppressed.
