To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery excellent in safety, charge-discharge cycle characteristics, and high-temperature storage characteristics, and suitable for charging at high voltage.

In the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a positive electrode using a lithium-containing composite oxide having layer structure as an active material, a negative electrode, a separator, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, and having a potential of the positive electrode in full charge of ≥4.35 V based on Li standard, vinyl ethylene carbonate or its derivative and a cyclic sulfate derivative or a cyclic sulfonate derivative are contained in the nonaqueous electrolyte.
