Title:
NONLINEAR OPTICAL MATERIAL AND PRODUCTION THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH03261923
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To freshly obtain a material having a second order nonlinear optical characteristic by forming this material by a mere alkaline treatment, neutralization treatment and recrystallization from p-nitroaniline having no second order nonlinear optical characteristics at all. CONSTITUTION:The p-nitroaniline is subjected to a dissolution treatment in a solvent then to the alkaline treatment to form a nonlinear optically active crystal. The solvents to be used are not particularly limited, insofar as the solvents dissolve the p-nitroaniline; alcohols, such as methanol and ethanol, and acetone, dimethylsulfoxide, etc., are usually used. The resulted nonlinear optical material exhibits the nonlinear optical characteristic in SHG activity as high as at least >=10 times the nonlinear optical characteristic of urea and is usable as a new type of display devices, optical recording materials greatly improved in recording density or as optical materials in electrooptical control, such as optical intensity modulation and optical phase modulation.
