PURPOSE: To obtain nonwoven fabric for plant growth, having excellent water permeability, air permeability and improved root isolating properties, by processing polyolefin fiber and a specific amount of vegetable natural fiber into nonwoven fabric.

CONSTITUTION: PP-PE conjugated fibers or the fibers blended with PO fibers (consisting essentially of polyolefin fibers) and vegetable natural fibers such as kraft pulp are cut or beaten and blended in such a way that the amount of the vegetable natural fibers is 10W50wt.% based on the total amounts to give a raw material solution. The raw material solution is mixed with water, impurities and insufficiently dispersed materials are removed and the resulting material is made into a nonwoven fabric sheet by a paper making machine. The nonwoven fabric sheet has excellent water permeability, air permeability, water retention, isolates root of seedling and is effective for rooting of seedling. The sheet is readily produced, heat setting is also easily carried out and addition of the natural fibers prevents slipping and facilitates cutting processing.
