NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I [R is group of formula II (R1, R2 and R3 are H, halogen, 4W14C alkyl, aryl, etc.), group of formula V, etc.].

EXAMPLE: N-[(6-chloropyrazin-2-yl)aminocarbonyl]-2-methylbenzenesulfonamide.

USE: A herbicide. It has strong herbicidal activity against various weeds by soil treatment as well as foliar treatment. It exhibits high selectivity to rice, wheat and corn which are important crops. High herbicidal effect can be attained at a low rate of application.

PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be produced, according to the reaction formula, by dissolving 2-methylbenzenesulfonyl isocyanate of formula III in an inert solvent (e.g. anhydrous dioxane, acetonitrile, toluene or methylene chloride) and reacting with various amino compounds of formula IV.
