Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enhance the softening point, and improve the dilution and solubility to aliphatic solvents by dissolving a dicyclopentadiene resin to a specified aromatic fraction followed by cation copolymerization.

CONSTITUTION: A dicyclopentadiene fraction is thermally polymerized in the presence of an aromatic solvent at a temp. of 240-270°C for 2-10 hours to provide a dicyclopentadiene resin (A). The component A is dissolved in (B) a C6-12 aromatic fraction so that the weight ratio of A/B is 0-100, and then cation- copolymerized at 50°C or lower under the presence of a Lewis acid (e.g.: BF3) of 0.02-3 wt.% to the components A, B.
