To provide an opening/closing drive device for an opening/closing body for vehicles in which an excessive load is prevented from being applied on a driving system and other parts and a control circuit is not complicated.
The opening/closing device for an opening/closing body of vehicles provided with an opening/closing device 5 formed of a rack/pinion mechanism between a vehicle body 2 and an opening/closing body (tail gate 1) turnably provided to the vertical direction in the vehicle body and an opening direction urging means (gas stay 4) comprising a gas sealed cylinder comprises a groove 9 having an upward and downward component and a forward and backward component formed in the rack, a pin 10 capable of rushing into the groove and moving in a front/rear direction, and a means (compression spring 11 and cylinder device 13) capable of relatively vertically moving the pin 10 and the groove. The opening/closing drive device is designed to prevent the rack from reversely advancing by engagement of the vertical component in the groove formed in the rack and the pin when the opening direction urging force is cut off with the opening position sustaining force of the opening direction urging means being insufficient .
