To prevent the pollution, deterioration and others of membranes by microorganisms and fungi in a membrane module during the stop of treatment in the operation method of a membrane separator which conducts treatment and treatment stops.
Prior to the treatment stop of a membrane separator, water added with a chemical agent such as a fungicide is supplied into a membrane module 4 to be retained. During the stop of treatment, the concentration of the chemical agent or the number of fine particles contained in the retained water in the membrane module 4 is measured by a measuring means 50. Every time when the concentration or the number reaches a prescribed value, new water added with the chemical agent is supplied into the module 4 to be retained. The operation is controlled by a control means 60.
