PURPOSE: To attain facsimile(FAX) communication between a FAX equipment and a portable terminal equipment without using a telephone line by transmitting a false ringer signal from an optical communication adaptor connected to the FAX equipment to start the FAX equipment in the case of printing out data from the portable terminal equipment to the FAX equipment.

CONSTITUTION: When the optical communication adaptor 1 is connected to the FAX equipment 10 through a communication cable 11, a CPU 6 drives a line current circuit 3 and a line current is allowed to flow to execute operation similarly to a case connecting the FAX equipment 10 to a public telephone line. At the time of receiving a communication start signal from the portable terminal equipment 7, the CPU 6 allows a false ringer signal generating circuit 2 to generate a signal. At the time of receiving the false ringer signal, the FAX equipment 10 is turned to an off-hook state and turned to a started state by closing a line and the adaptor 1 transmits a receiving start signal from an infrared-ray LED to start optical communication with the equipment 7, so that picture data corresponding to a FAX transmitting format can be printed out similarly to normal FAX communication.
