To thin the rear side of an optical connector.

The optical fiber code member 8 is formed by coating a coated optical fiber 10 with an outer sheath 11 through a tension fiber 21. The tip part of the coated optical fiber 10 exposed by removing the outer sheath 11 of the tip part of the optical fiber code member 8, is fixed to a ferrule. The periphery of other regions of the exposed coated optical fiber 10 is covered by a cylindrical member 16. Projected parts 22 are formed at the rear end part of the cylindrical member 16. The tension fiber 21 is placed on the top of the projected parts 22. A fixing member 20 is fitted to the rear end part of the cylindrical member 16. The projected parts 22 of the cylindrical member 16 and the fixing member 20 hold and fix the tension fiber 21. The thickness of the cylindrical member 16 can be made thinner compared with the case that the outer sheath 11 of the optical fiber code member 8 is press-contacted and fixed to the cylindrical member 16. The rear side of the optical connector can be thinned because the thickness of the fixing member 20 can also easily be made thinner.
