In engaging both housings 23, 27 with each other, the tip surface of an abutting body 31 is abutted on the peripheral edge part of the end face of an end face protection cover 29 and thereby an elastic cylinder part 71 of the end face protection cover 29 is elastically deformed and contracted, so that the tip part of a first optical fiber 21 is exposed from a slit 28 formed on a closed face wall 73 and the state of the closed face wall 73 is changed to a state capable of performing optical coupling. In separating both the housings 23, 27 from each other at repairing or the like, the abutting of the abutting body 31 on the end face protection cover 29 is released, the elastic cylinder part 71 of the end face protection cover 29 is elastically restored and extended and the closed face wall 73 is restored to the original state to close the tip part of the first optical fiber 21.
