Abstract:

To provide a superior optical diffusion member in terms of optical utilization efficiency, and a display device equipped with the same.

An optical diffusion member 16 includes a base material 42, an optical diffusion section 43 formed on a surface of the base material 42, a plurality of light shielding layers 44 formed on the same surface of the base material 42, and a plurality of low refractive index sections 46 formed in air gaps 45 created inside the optical diffusion section 43 at locations overlapping with the light shielding layers 44. The optical diffusion section 43 has a light exit end surface 43a on the base material 42 side and a light entrance end surface 43b having a larger area than the light exit end surface 43a on the side opposite the base material 42 side, and the thickness of the optical diffusion section 43 from the light entrance end surface 43b to the light exit end surface 43a is greater than the thickness of the light shielding layers 44. At least one of the plurality of low refractive index sections 46 shall satisfy a relationship: tanθ=2d/L, where L represents a diameter of a light shield layer 44, d represents the thickness of the optical diffusion section 43, and θ represents an angle between the optical diffusion section 43 and a line parallel to the base material 42 at the middle of the optical diffusion section 43 in the thickness direction.
