To provide an inexpensive and highly-safe optical fiber mat sensor having high sensitivity.
This sensor having an optical fiber 11 having a sensor part SP enabling interaction with the outside world of a part of transmitted light, which is the optical fiber 11 equipped with a core and a clad provided on the outer circumference of the core, is constituted as follows: a pair of mats 14 sandwiching the sensor part SP is provided so that both ends of the optical fiber 11 are drawn to the outside; a light source 12 for emitting sensor light toward the incident end of the optical fiber 11 is connected; a light receiving part 13 for detecting the sensor light emitted from the outgoing end of the optical fiber 11 through the sensor part SP is connected; the intensity of the sensor light is detected by the light receiving part 13; and hereby a pressure applied to the main surface of the mat 14 is sensed.
