PURPOSE: To prevent the infiltration of moisture into a space where optical fibers are housed by eliminating the deviation between a base plate and a cap member and hermetically sealing the space.
CONSTITUTION: The base plate 20 is provided with a recessed part 23 enclosing the space 17, and the cap member 21 is provided with a projecting part 25 enclosing the space 17. The recessed part 23 and the projecting part 25 are fitted to each other and an adhesive is filled into the fitting part to eliminate the deviation between the base plate 20 and the cap member 21' and simultaneously to seal the space 17 hermetically. The infiltration of the moisture from the outside into the coupling region of the optical fibers 1 housed in the space 17 is prevented by hermetically sealing the space 17.
