Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enhance the diffraction efficiency in the case of use of a ferroelectric liquid crystal display device as a hologram by constituting the ferroelectric liquid crystal display device of only the ferroelectric liquid crystal plate. CONSTITUTION:The ferroelectric liquid crystal display device is constituted of only the ferroelectric liquid crystal plate 211 without using deflecting plates and hologram patterns are independently applied at every prescribed region by a driving device. The angle formed by the orientation angle of the liquid crystal molecules LC in the region impressed with a positive voltage and the orientation direction of the liquid crystal molecules LC in a region impressed with the negative voltage when the positive and negative voltages are impressed to transparent electrodes by the driving device, i.e., one angle CA, is set in a 30 to 150 deg.C range. The light polarized in the optical axis direction of the region A of the ferroelectric liquid crystal plate 21 is outputted without changing its plarization direction in the region A and is outputted by rotating its plarization direction 90 deg. in the region B if the CA is set at 90 deg.. Since the plarization directions of these two light rays intersect orthogonally with each other, the light rays do not interfere with each other and interfere with each other within the respective regions, by which the diffracted images of the same intensity are formed in overlap.
