Title:
OPTICAL MODULE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3111871
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the breaking of an optical fiber and the breaking in the fusion spliced part of an optical waveguide and the optical fiber by providing a supporting member with a specific groove for embedding and fixing the optical fiber with a resin.
SOLUTION: The optical waveguide 1 is fixed to an optical waveguide supporting part 3 with solder, etc., and the optical waveguide supporting part 3 is fixed to a casing 8 by welding or with a resin, etc. The optical fiber 2 to be optically coupled to the optical waveguide 1 is fixed with the resin to the supporting member 6. The supporting member 4 is provided with the groove 5 of the diameter of 1.1 to 3 times the coating diameter of the optical fiber and the groove shape is formed into a curvilinear shape. Then, friction force is generated between the side walls of the groove 5 and the coating layer of the optical fiber 2 and detaining force increases even if pulling force is applied on the optical fiber 2 and, therefore, the breaking in the fusion spliced part of the optical waveguide 1 and the optical fiber 2 does not arise. Even if pushing force is applied on the optical fiber 2, the influence of the pushing force is absorbed and the breaking of the optical fiber 2 in the groove 5 is prevented.
