Abstract:

PURPOSE: To remove the position detection error of a moving object caused by saturation of a receiving amplifier.
CONSTITUTION: Optical reflectors A1, A2, A3 arranged around a moving object are irradiated sequentially with light transmitted from an optical transmitter 3 at each measuring cycle. Reflected light is detected by a light receiver 4 and the output r1 therefrom is amplified by an amplifier 5. A position measuring unit 6 measures the distances up to respective reflectors A1, A2, A3 based on an output v1 from the amplifier and the position of the moving object on a horizontal plane is calculated at each measuring cycle. A variable transmittance filter 7 is disposed in front of the light receiver 4 and a controller 8 varies the transmittance of the filter 7 depending on the estimated distance up to the reflector A1, A2, A3 receiving the light.
