Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the stability of an output light pulse train by setting optimum input power with a simple constitution without using a measuring instrument for confirming the stability of the output light pulse train, a pulse waveform, a spectrum, etc., in an optical pulse compression device using a dispersion decreasing fiber(DDF) and a dispersion imbalanced nonlinear optical loop mirror(DI-NOLM).
SOLUTION: The input power Pi to the dispersion decreasing fiber of the optical pulse compression device and the output power Po of the dispersion imbalanced nonlinear optical loop mirror to it (Pi) are measured to obtain the transmission loss L(Pi)=10log[Po(Pi)/Pi] of the optical pulse compression device. A value Pi which stabilizes the output light pulse train is obtained and set on the basis of the change of Po(Pi) and L(Pi) to Pi.
