Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the management of a directory and to shorten the time required for retrieving a data record.

CONSTITUTION: A single optical disk 10 or the other optical medium provides an optical storage array having a separated read/write(R/W) area 20 and an additional (WORM) area 15. A read/write head 40, namely, a transducer selectively records data once in the WORM area 15 but it records and records again data in the R/W area 20. The WORM area 15 and the R/W area 20 can selectively be read. The WORM area 15 is used for storing the data record and the R/W area 20 contains the directory for the data record recorded in the WORM area 15.
